It's actually a combination of a few things. The first, is that many sightings posted so far actually aren't being uploaded with photos. We are working on updates that will display a default photo for all sightings that don't have one. This way you won't have to spend a bunch of time waiting for something that isn't there.
Another reason is actually the application. We've found that there are times when the device (not the app) doesn't have enough memory to store more than one photo at a time. So if the user posts a few different sightings before regaining service, then some of the photos may be lost. We are going to have this fixed in the next application update.
Finally, we are going to offer users the ability to upload photos taken by their camera once they get back to their computer. That way the application and site will display photos of much better quality, and it will allow users to quickly post their sighting, then show off their photography afterwards.
If you have any further suggestions, please let us know! Thanks so much for asking.
